About Seana Boyle

I’m an Irish painter inspired by the places, colours and fleeting moments that stay with us long after we’ve left them.
My work is rooted in a love of the landscape around me - from the dramatic coastline of Donegal and the beaches of the North Coast to woodland walks, mountain views and the familiar places that have become part of my family’s story.
I paint the places that hold our memories.
A sunset can bring back a particular holiday. A stretch of coastline can remind us of childhood summers. A certain light can transport us straight back to a moment we thought we had forgotten. It’s these feelings I try to capture in my paintings: the joy of being somewhere beautiful, the freedom of adventure, the warmth of home and the people we share those moments with.
Painting the feeling
My paintings begin with memories, photographs and the landscapes I experience around me, but they are not intended to be exact representations of a place. I’m much more interested in how a place felt.
Colour is central to this. I often push beyond the colours found in the landscape itself, using expressive skies, unexpected combinations and layers of colour to create atmosphere and emotion. I might soften a traditional blue-and-green landscape with a rose-pink glow, or paint out a storm cloud entirely if it doesn't reflect the feeling I want the finished piece to hold.
My process is intuitive and expressive. I build paintings through layers of acrylic paint, working with brushes, palette knives and sometimes my fingers to create movement, texture and energy. I enjoy the balance between loose, spontaneous marks and carefully considered areas of detail, allowing the painting to evolve until it feels alive.
