Let's Do It Anyway

There are days when the easiest thing to do is stay at home.

On this particular day at Benone Beach on the North Coast of Northern Ireland, the sky was full of dramatic clouds and the weather wasn't exactly making a trip to the beach feel like an obvious choice. But we went anyway — and were rewarded with one of those spectacular coastal views that make you very glad you made the effort.

This original acrylic seascape is inspired by a photograph I took that day. I was drawn to the contrast between the enormous, changing sky and the calm sweep of the beach below, and to the way the breaks in the clouds allowed glimpses of light to transform the landscape.

For me, Let’s Do It Anyway is about more than this particular day. It's a little reminder that we don't always need perfect conditions before we go, try, explore or make the most of an opportunity. Sometimes the days we nearly talk ourselves out of can turn out to be the ones we remember most.

Painted in expressive layers of acrylic, the changing sky and expansive horizon capture that feeling of standing on the beach and realising that sometimes, you just have to do it anyway.
