Inspired by the dramatic beauty of Glenmalure Valley in the Wicklow Mountains, this original acrylic landscape painting captures the valley at the moment daylight begins to fade.
Glenmalure is a spectacular glacial valley surrounded by the mountains of County Wicklow, with the Avonbeg River winding through its floor. The landscape is known for its deep valley, steep mountain sides and fast-flowing streams — a setting that naturally lends itself to dramatic light and colour.
For this painting, I was drawn to the contrast between the dark, sheltering mountains and the extraordinary colours of the evening sky. Deep blues and greens frame a glowing horizon of orange, pink and violet, while the river catches the last of the light as it winds towards the viewer.
I wanted to capture more than a view of Wicklow. The intention was to recreate that feeling of standing in a quiet mountain valley as the day comes to an end — when the landscape becomes darker, the sky becomes more vivid and the water seems to hold onto the last traces of daylight.
Painted in expressive layers of acrylic, Last Light in Glenmalure celebrates the drama, colour and atmosphere of the Wicklow landscape.
Museum quality, fully archival, Giclee fine art print on 315gsm cotton rag paper. Print size includes border.
