Light in Full Colour

Inspired by an unforgettable pink sunset in Portrush on the Causeway Coast, this original acrylic painting explores what happens when familiar seascapes are transformed by extraordinary light.

There is a fleeting moment at sunset when the ordinary seems to become something else entirely. On this evening, the sky above Portrush was washed with intense pinks and warm tones, creating reflections and colours across the water that seemed almost too vivid to be real.

Rather than trying to recreate the scene exactly, I wanted to hold on to that feeling — the sense of being stopped in your tracks by the beauty of something that will only last for a few minutes.

Layers of expressive colour move across the canvas, with vibrant pinks, soft blues, turquoise and deeper tones creating the impression of light constantly shifting across the sea. The marks are energetic and deliberately loose, allowing the colours to mingle and create their own movement.

Light in Full Colour is a celebration of the way light can change our perception of a familiar place, reminding us that even landscapes we know well can surprise us.

Inspired by Portrush, County Antrim, this painting brings a little of that extraordinary North Coast sunset indoors — a moment of colour captured before it disappeared.
