Wild and Still

Inspired by a beautiful photograph taken by my talented stepson during a family holiday in Austria, "Wild and Still" is a painting about the freedom of travelling somewhere new while still finding a sense of calm within it.

The mountains, still water and fading light create a moment of extraordinary tranquillity, but there is also something wonderfully adventurous about the scene. The dark silhouettes of the landscape invite you to look beyond them, to imagine what lies around the next bend or on the other side of the mountains.

I wanted to capture that balance between being an intrepid traveller and feeling completely at peace — the excitement of discovering somewhere unfamiliar, alongside the quiet moments when you simply stop and take it all in.

Rich violet, pink and blue tones stretch across the evening sky and reflect across the water, creating a dreamlike atmosphere. The tiny figure in the landscape adds a sense of scale and reminds us of our place within something much bigger.

For me, this painting is an invitation to keep exploring, stay curious and embrace the adventure — without ever losing sight of the joy of simply being present in the moment.
