Wild Horizons

Inspired by Keem Beach on Achill Island, this original acrylic seascape grew from one of my happiest childhood memories — jumping in the waves with my dad.

Keem is a place that seems to invite you into the landscape. Tucked between dramatic cliffs at the western edge of Achill Island, its sweeping beach opens out towards the Atlantic, creating a wonderful feeling of freedom, adventure and endless possibility.

I wanted to capture that feeling rather than simply paint a picture of the beach. The vibrant blues and turquoise of the Atlantic meet a sky filled with expressive movement, while the energetic brushwork reflects the exhilaration of being in the water, feeling the waves beneath your feet and completely losing yourself in the moment.

There is something wonderfully carefree about dancing in the sea as a child — the sort of joy that stays with you long after the day itself has passed. Wild Horizons is my celebration of that feeling: freedom, connection and the sheer happiness of being beside the ocean.

Painted with bold colour and expressive layers of acrylic, this piece is an invitation to remember your own wild places, childhood adventures and moments when you felt completely free.
